Pre-upload check
Printer template final check for book covers
Use the calculator for planning, then make the official printer template the final authority.
A final checklist for comparing a spine estimate with the printer or print-on-demand cover template.
Generate the template after the interior is final
The official template is most useful after the formatted interior PDF is stable. If you generate it too early, page-count changes can make the spine and cover spread wrong.
- Finalize or freeze the interior PDF before final cover export.
- Use the exact trim, paper, binding, and page count.
- Regenerate the template if any of those details change.
Compare every exported dimension
Before upload, compare the exported cover file with the template dimensions, bleed, barcode placement, spine guides, and safe areas. The calculator result should match the assumptions used in the template.
- Check full spread width and height.
- Check spine width and centered spine content.
- Keep a record of the calculator inputs with the cover brief.
Always confirm final cover dimensions with your printer or POD platform.
